Throughout the Gospels of the New Testament, the statement is made that Jesus went about all the towns and villages of Israel, "...teaching." "And he (Jesus) marveled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching." Mark 6:6 Jesus taught the people in a very unique way. He used "parables" to illustrate spiritual truths that might very well be difficult for the hearer to understand and comprehend at first. As an example, Jesus would tell them a brief story, in the context of their everyday life experience. They could, in this way, remember the story and context easily, even if they did not immediately grasp the spiritual truth or principle at the moment. The result of this kind of teaching enabled the hearer to carry the principle in their mind, and as they would meditate upon it and also reflect it upon God's written word, the real truth could eventually be discovered. |
